After School Program

Once again the Bryker Woods PTA is kicking off an exciting after-school enrichment program. We’re very fortunate to have some wonderful local organizations who have offered to teach at Bryker Woods this year.  Click here for a registration form.

All programs begin when school is dismissed.  Limited scholarships available. Class sizes are limited and are on a first come, first served basis.

All classes begin at 2:50 and end at 3:50 unless otherwise noted

MONDAY

Skating (3rd – 4th grades)   $35 (4 classes)  Mondays Feb. 8 and 22 and Wednesdays Feb. 10 and 17

Come have some relaxed fun with your friends while we turn the gym into a skating rink!  Skating provides a variety of benefits, including balance, coordination, motor skills, and a top-rated cardio-respiratory workout.  There will be a limited number of skate sizes available, so sign up now if you’d like to skate after school with your friends.  We’ll check skate availability after the school order is processed to determine who will be in the class.  Taught by Ms. Levis in the gym

Gym-N-Around (K-1 st)  $35  (4 weeks) April 5 – 26
Basic fundamental skills such as throwing, catching, dribbling, and kicking in a very relaxed atmosphere. Games and activities designed to help your child grow, develop, and sleep really well that particular night.

Secrets of Magic (All Grades) $72 (6 weeks) Feb. 1 – March 22 (no class Feb. 15 or March 15)
Classes end at 4:00
Self-confidence soars as children learn magic tricks that they can do.  Real magicians from The Kent Cummins Magic Camp teach age and developmentally-appropriate magic tricks in an atmosphere of FUN!  Classes will be in the music room.  Checks payable to The Kent Cummins Magic Camp.

TUESDAY
Story Building (2nd-5th) $80 (10 weeks) Feb. 9 – April 20 (no class March 16)

A performing arts class in which children will explore creative methods of telling both traditional stories and tales from their own lives, learning to find new ways to express ideas to the listener and understanding what the listener brings to the storytelling experience.  Yoga and rhythmic movement are incorporated in the class.  Session will culminate in an informal performance of works developed by the class.  Classes meet in the library.  Checks payable to Move Your Tale.

Clay Creations – Mexican Folk Art (4th-6th) $75 (6 weeks)  Feb. 2 – March 9.  Classes end at 4:15 p.m.
Create fabulous ceramic artworks with a Mexican Folk Art theme.  Projects will include a Mexican Tree of Life, an animal container (e.g. turtle box), and a sun/moon wall mask.  Taught by our own Ms. Flores in the art room.  Checks payable to Sue Flores.

Castles, Kings and Queens (K-1st) $64+$15 supply fee (6 weeks) Feb 2 - March 9 
Fantasies come alive for little artists when they build castles, create regal costumes, paint banners and sculpt dragons with exciting art materials!  Basic design elements like color and texture are used to develop art skills. Classes meet in Ms. Sharpe’s classroom.  Checks payable to AMOA.

Budding Artists (K-1st) $64 + $15 supply fee (6 weeks) March 23 - April 27 
Budding Artists classes enhance your child’s natural creativity and inquisitiveness with innovative projects that will advance their artistic skills and confidence.  Children will learn about artists and a variety of practical art techniques.  They’ll enjoy drawing, painting, 3D sculpture, self portraits and collage.  Classes meet in Ms. Sharpe’s classroom.  Checks payable to AMOA.

THURSDAY
Gymnastics (K - 2nd)  $112.50 (may be paid in 2 installments) (10 classes) Feb. 4 – April 15  (No class 3/18)
Students learn proper warm-up and conditioning with strength and flexibility exercises.  Our developmental approach teaches tumbling, acrobatics, balance beam, and rhythmic gymnastics skills (ball, ribbon and hoop manipulation).  Classes meet in the gym.  Checks payable to Dance Associates.

Claymation (2nd – 3rd) $98 plus $20 materials fee (6 weeks)  Feb. 4 – Mar. 11 Classes end at 4:20
Create stop-motion animation!  Make your own clay cartoon, then create a movie set and animate a mini-movie with your creature as the star.  Discover secrets and tricks to make your creatures realistic – the possibilities for claymation are endless!  Classes meet in Ms. Warren’s classroom. Art Sampler (2nd-3rd) $64 plus $15 materials fee (6 weeks)  March 25 – April 29

Learn how to program the amazing LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robots. The class will introduce programming concepts such as repeat loops and if/then statements, and the use of sensors.  Please note:  This class is limited to programming, and does not include building, LEGO® robots.  Robots are provided and are for use by students in class only.  Classes meet in Ms. Spain’s classroom. Are you ready to move to the next level in robotics?  This class is for those who have already taken a Bits, Bytes & Bots LEGO® Mindstorms® NXT robotics class and want to learn how to use new sensors and new programming.  You will be presented with a number of new challenges that will test your programming skills.  Please note:  This class is limited to programming, and does not include building, LEGO® robots. Robots are provided and are for use by students in class only.  Classes meet in Ms. Spain’s classroom.  Checks payable to Bits, Bytes and Bots.

FRIDAY
Action Computer Game Creation (3rd – 6th)  $95 (4 weeks) Feb. 5 – March 5 (No class Feb. 12)

If you think playing computer games is fun, think what a blast learning to program your own games will be. Learn to create sprites, objects, events and actions. Design a room, make it look the way you want, add objects and play your game.  We will teach you how to display health, lives, scores and high score tables using drag and drop programming.  Students will take home a CD with their games and the software to keep making games at home. (Games and software usable on Windows OS only.)  Classes meet in the library. Checks payable to Bits, Bytes and Bots.

Advanced Action Computer Game Creation (3rd – 6th) $95 (4 weeks) April 9 – 30  Classes end at 4:50
Continue to build your game creation skills and take them to the next level.  We will examine gravity, platforms, bosses, levels, effects, and learn how to keep expanding your Game Maker skills.  You must have already taken an Action Computer Game Creation class with Bits, Bytes & Bots as basic Game Maker skills will be assumed.  Students will receive a CD with their game and the software to keep making games when they get home.  (Games and software usable on Windows OS only.)  Classes meet in the library.  Checks payable to Bits, Bytes and Bots

Stop-Motion Animated Filmmaking (3rd – 6th) $95 (4 weeks) May 7 – 28  Classes end at 4:50
If you’ve ever wanted to direct your own movies or like making up stories, then this class is for you.  Using digital cameras, Stop Motion Pro animation software and video editing software, you’ll create animated movies with transitions, titles, credits and sound effects.  Design your own set with backgrounds, characters and scenery.  The stories are up to your imagination.  Students take home a CD with their movies at the end of class.  Classes meet in the library.  Checks payable to Bits, Bytes and Bots.

In this multi-cultural, hands-on percussion class, students will make and play (and keep!) instruments from around the world.  While constructing their instruments, students will examine not only the history and geography of the country of origin, but the impact the instrument has had within the culture of that country.  Curriculum will include Portuguese Frame Drums, Mexican Rainsticks and Cuban Bongos.  Classes meet in the music room.  Checks payable to One World Non-Profit.
