Principal Newsletter
March 8, 2010
Dear Parents,
I hope you are able to spend quality time with your loved ones during the up and coming ‘Spring Break’ holiday (3-13 through 3-21). It’s hard to believe that March 20th is the First Day of Spring and we are beginning our final 9 week quarter when you return.
Ms. Linda Patrick is our new Crossing Guard at the 34th Street and Kerbey Lane
intersection. Stop by and give her big ‘Welcome to Bryker Woods’.
If you have not had a chance to fill out the AISD Parent Survey there is still time
to do so on-line. This is noted in the middle of the district’s homepage
www.austinisd.org. We value your input and look forward to seeing your ideas on the ways we can work toward improvement and on what you find going well at BW.
At the bottom of my newsletter, you will find information on a Campus Vision
Plan. We are asking all of our community to weigh in on this. Directions are given as to how to access this as well as when the committee will reconvene with their recommendations. Since this is six pages long, we did not want to print out copies for our 300+ families, so we have paper copies available in the office if you are not able to access this electronically. Thank you all for your commitment to making BW the best that it can be. We welcome your input to this vision plan.
Please take some time to read and enjoy a poem that Ellie Zambarano wrote and
performed for us during one of our school wide assemblies last week. Ellie is a fifth grader in Mrs. Spain’s room. We are proud of all our students’ efforts and invite you to one of our morning assemblies on Mondays and Thursdays where we celebrate school, student, and staff achievements. I wish you all a safe and happy break.
Best,
Nancy Hobbs, Principal

AxBW Poem

Arts by Bryker Woods
is coming up real soon.
People come from near and far
from Venus, from the moon.
Acting, singing, poetry
will take place at the school.
Chiming, magic, telling jokes
it will be so cool!
So grab your flute, your microphone
practice even more.
Get ready for the great performance
you’ve been waiting for.
Hooray, Hurrah, we just can’t wait
for the Arts by Bryker Woods bizarre.
Grab your pen and sign right up
for your chance to be a star!
The Campus Advisory Committee (CAC) has worked to prepare a CAMPUS VISION PLAN (CVP) for Bryker Woods Elementary School. This Vision Plan is an addendum to the CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN (CIP) required annually by AISD. The Campus Vision Plan attempts to embody the vision, spirit and goals of the school that may not be fully captured in the CIP.
A Committee Draft of this year 2010 Campus Vision Plan has been sent electronically to each parent on the List Serve. Additionally, paper copies are available in the front office and will be available for viewing online via the PTA website.
The Campus Vision Committee seeks review and comment from the entire Bryker Woods
Elementary community. Once community input is gathered, the Vision Committee will rework the draft for approval by the CAC.
The Campus Vision Committee which prepared this DRAFT has five members: Sue Flores, Debbi Warren, Derek Barcinski, Tim Parker and Edward Tasch. The committee would like feedback from all interested parties:
1. Please respond in writing only (paper or email).
2. Paper response may be returned to any Vision Committee member.
3. Email responses may be sent to dbarcinski@aol.com.
4. The Vision Committee requires response by Wednesday, March 24, 2010 @ 5 PM

Please mark March 25th at 6:00 PM on your calendar to join us here at Bryker Woods for this one of a kind event. Mrs. Flores and Mrs. Long along with countless volunteers have worked to bring you poetry, music, and songs to listen to, wonderful art work to view, and student led technology projects, as well as lots of delicious food to eat! Each student will have a piece of art work displayed and many of our students will be performing on one of the stages. Be sure to stop by one of the tech areas and have your child demonstrate his/her latest acquired skills and technology project.
Lost and Found
Our lost and found items are on two tables in the front hall, as well as in our black Lost and Found cabinet. Our fabulous special area teachers will have these out at the Peace Fest this Friday and many of our students claim their items then. At the end of the day on Friday we will bag up all the left over items and donate them to charity. Thank you Mr. Nelson for doing this for us.
Hydration
Please see the attached article on hydration from our nurse, Judy Roby.
